Ed Anzalone, widely recognized as “Fireman Ed,” has expressed concerns about his diminished presence on the video boards during New York Jets home games at MetLife Stadium. Anzalone, known for his involvement in energizing the crowds with the iconic “J-E-T-S” chant, voiced his frustrations on social media, suggesting that the organization might be deliberately phasing him out.

In a video posted on Tuesday, Anzalone mentioned noticing the reduced screen time during the Jets’ loss to the Buffalo Bills and the previous game against the Denver Broncos. He reflected, “Last night in particular, we scored a touchdown, and as a tradition, we’re always put on the screen. Yet, this time, it didn’t happen.” Anzalone’s visible displeasure highlights the significance of his role in rallying fans at the stadium, which he described as essential for maintaining their home-field advantage.

Fireman Ed has been a fixture at Jets games since 1986, becoming famous for his firefighter helmet and lively fan leadership. The recent development has sparked varied reactions among Jets fans, with some questioning his relevance. Comments online ranged from calling him “just a fan” to critiquing his past actions, such as temporarily stepping away from his role in 2012.

Following the Jets’ defeat on Monday, Anzalone reiterated his concern, stating, “I’ve been getting a lot of emails and texts from fans about the Jet experience in the stadium with the big screens.” He pleaded for information, adding, “I’d like to know if somebody knows anything because it’s evident that it’s happening, and it needs to stop.”

The Jets are navigating a tumultuous phase, marked by a recent coaching change with Jeff Ulbrich stepping in as interim head coach following Robert Saleh‘s dismissal. Amidst these adjustments, the team also made significant roster changes by acquiring a star wide receiver to support their quarterback, hoping to steer their season back on track.

Despite the controversies and administrative changes, Fireman Ed remains a prominently recognized figure within the Jets’ fanbase. His reaction to being potentially sidelined remains a focal point of discussion among dedicated supporters as the team prepares for their upcoming road games before returning to MetLife Stadium.
