Jim Cantore Arrives in Florida as Hurricane Milton Approaches
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Renowned meteorologist Jim Cantore has arrived in Florida to cover the imminent landfall of Hurricane Milton, a massive storm projected to hit midweek along the Gulf Coast. The Weather Channel has confirmed that Cantore, along with other meteorologists, has been deployed to Florida’s West Coast to monitor the developments of this tropical system.
A report from early Monday morning indicated Cantore was spotted in Tampa. Social media activity, particularly from a Facebook group dedicated to weather updates, also noted his presence in the area. Later, a Weather Channel broadcast showed Cantore reporting live from Davis Islands, providing detailed reports from the scene.
Hurricane Milton, currently a Category 4 storm, poses a severe threat to Florida, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC). Although Milton has slightly weakened from its peak as a Category 5 hurricane, the storm continues to carry dangerous winds and conditions, projected to impact Florida and the Tampa Bay area despite its gradual weakening trend leading up to landfall.
The hurricane’s trajectory suggests landfall will occur sometime midweek, with adverse weather conditions expected to reach the region as early as Tuesday evening. At the latest advisory, Milton was located approximately 560 miles southwest of Tampa, maintaining maximum sustained winds of 155 mph, though it initially clocked in at a staggering 180 mph on Monday morning.
Milton’s forward movement is directed east-northeast at a speed of 12 mph. The NHC emphasized that “while fluctuations in intensity are expected, Milton is forecast to remain an extremely dangerous hurricane through landfall in Florida.”
