Joe Keery Another Bite Tour Performance

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — American musician and actor Joe Keery, who performs under the stage name Djo, kicked off his Another Bite tour with a sold-out show at College Street Music Hall Saturday night.

Fans gathered in a crowded, sweat-filled venue to watch Keery perform alongside Post Animal, a psychedelic rock band with which he once played. Keery reunited with Post Animal this year for their album Iron, released on July 25.

“Unfortunately I can’t write two songs that sound like they’re on the same record so you guys are going to have to hang on,” Djo told the crowd, which included his father.

The show featured several songs from Djo’s genre-mixing discography, starting with the techno-pop track “Awake.” He included his popular ’80s-inspired hit “End of Beginning,” delighting long-time fans like Quinn Matteson, a sophomore, who followed Djo since his debut album Twenty Twenty in 2019.

Matteson mentioned, “I really like the new album and the new Deluxe. It’s definitely a little bit different of a mood, but it works super well.”

Throughout the concert, Djo showcased his musical talents by singing, playing guitar, and mixing music live. Fan Victoria Thurber praised his stylistic choices and “vocal runs,” calling him a “musical genius.”

Thurber and her friend Eden Mata, both wearing matching shirts reading “Who the fuck is Djoel Keeny?” explained the shirts were inspired by Keery’s joke about having an evil twin. Mata has been a fan since Keery’s time with Post Animal and appreciates his growth as an artist.

“I remember going to early shows, and they weren’t the greatness you see today,” Mata said, noting his improved stage presence. “His ability to be vulnerable with the crowd has made his performances even more enjoyable.”

During the performance of “Delete Ya,” Djo noticed a fan had fainted. He paused to inquire, “Anyone need water?” and tossed water bottles to audience members.

Operations manager Ian Bunting noted that the packed venue, with approximately 2,000 attendees, often leads to dehydration. “When you have this many people in a crowded area, it’s gonna get hot,” he said.

Despite two audience members needing ambulance transport to Yale Hospital for precautionary measures, attendees like Thurber and Mata felt Djo handled the situation admirably.

<p“I think he did a fantastic job,” Mata said. Djo finished the concert on a high note, performing “Back on You” as the crowd cheered for an encore.

The pit lights dimmed again, and Djo returned to perform a two-song encore, including fan favorite “Chateau (Feel Alright).” “This song and dance is only possible because of you guys listening to the music,” he thanked the audience before ending with “Flash Mountain.”

The concert concluded with Djo jamming alongside Post Animal, leaving fans eager for their next show in Connecticut, set for Nov. 5 at Space Ballroom in Hamden.
