John Elway’s Friend Dies After Golf Cart Incident in California

La Quinta, California – A tragic golf cart incident has claimed the life of Jeffrey Sperbeck, a close friend and agent of Denver Broncos legend John Elway. The incident occurred on Saturday night at The Madison Club, where Sperbeck fell from the back of a golf cart driven by Elway.

According to officials, Cal Fire responded to the scene at 6:50 p.m. and found Sperbeck suffering from serious injuries. He was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, where he later died on Wednesday. Elway has not faced any charges related to the incident.

Reports indicate that Elway was driving the golf cart after a Stagecoach festival after-party when Sperbeck fell. Elway was reportedly the first person to call 911 for help. Public records show that he owns a property just 10 minutes from The Madison Club.

In the wake of the incident, Elway has retained Denver-based attorney Harvey Steinberg, known for defending various sports figures and athletes. Steinberg has successfully handled several high-profile cases, including those of previous Broncos executives and NBA players.

While the Riverside County Sheriff's Office has said it would take appropriate action based on the investigation’s outcome, they were not called to the scene because the incident was deemed medical in nature. When asked why there was a delay in reporting the incident, the Sheriff’s Office did not provide a response.

Following the tragedy, Elway expressed his deep sorrow in a statement to ESPN. “I am absolutely devastated and heartbroken by the passing of my close friend, business partner, and agent Jeff Sperbeck,” he said. “There are no words to truly express the profound sadness I feel with the sudden loss of someone who has meant so much to me.”

Sperbeck’s family also released a heartfelt statement mourning his loss, highlighting the impact he had on those around him. “We are grieving this unimaginable loss as a family alongside our dearest friends the Elway’s and the many other clients Jeff called friends,” they said.
