John Goodman Suffers Hip Injury During Filming in the UK

LONDON, England — Actor John Goodman sustained a hip injury while filming Alejandro González Iñárritu‘s latest untitled movie at Pinewood Studios in the UK. The incident, confirmed by a Warner Bros. spokesperson, has temporarily delayed production. “He received immediate medical attention that led to a brief delay in shooting to allow him time to recover,” the spokesperson said. Goodman’s recovery is expected to be swift, with filming anticipated to resume next week.
The 72-year-old actor slipped while blocking a scene, resulting in a two-day halt in filming. The spokesperson described the injury as a relatively minor incident. After receiving treatment, he was released from the hospital and is scheduled to return to the set on Monday.
The film marks Iñárritu’s first English-language project since 2016’s Oscar-winning “The Revenant,” which earned Leonardo DiCaprio his first Academy Award. Iñárritu, who both directs and produces the film, co-wrote the script with Sabina Berman and his “Birdman” co-writers Nicolás Giacobone and Alexander Dinelaris. Plot details remain under wraps, but a synopsis suggests a narrative following “the most powerful man in the world” who causes a disaster and attempts to prove he is humanity’s savior.
Goodman’s co-stars include Tom Cruise, Sandra Hüller, Jesse Plemons, Riz Ahmed, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Sophie Wilde. Notably, this film is Cruise’s first with Warner Bros. since signing a deal to develop and produce theatrical films with the studio in January 2024. His last project with them was the time travel sci-fi thriller “Edge of Tomorrow,” which premiered over a decade ago.
Goodman, an Oscar winner, has shifted his focus primarily to television in recent years, featuring prominently in shows like “The Conners,” “Monsters at Work,” and “The Righteous Gemstones.” He is also renowned for his film roles in classics like “Monsters, Inc.,” “The Big Lebowski,” and “Barton Fink.”
In a recent interview, Goodman discussed his health journey, revealing he lost over 200 pounds since 2007 and continues to work on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Despite the challenges related to his weight loss journey, he has expressed motivation to return to a consistent exercise routine.
