Joy Behar’s Humorous House Guest Rules Revealed
Joy Behar, co-host of ‘The View‘, has shared some amusing and practical rules she sets for house guests on a recent episode of the ‘Behind the Table‘ podcast. In a conversation with host Brian Teta, Behar elaborated on her straightforward approach to hosting, which notably includes a strict timeline for stays.
“I like [house guests] but for a limited time,” Behar stated, noting that she previously enforced a 24-hour rule for visitors. This policy was particularly relevant when she had a secondary home. “Before I could even afford a housekeeper, but I had this little house somewhere, I’d say bring your own sheets and towels and bring them home with you because I’m not doing your laundry,” she recalled, referring to visits at a property that was not her primary residence.
Among Behar’s guidelines is setting a “hard out” for guests. “I’m strict about it and I don’t have any problem saying, ‘So you’re coming Friday and leaving Sunday, right?'” she explained. Teta suggested that Behar’s public persona might allow her to be more candid, but she insisted, “Not because I’m Joy Behar, because it’s the truth!”
Teta proposed that many hosts leave departure details vague to avoid offending their guests. However, Behar countered, “Do you think anybody wants to live with that kind of ambiguity? When should I leave? Do they want me here?” She offered a humorous tactic for broaching the subject delicately: “There are ways to say it. ‘What time’s the bus?’ for example,” she joked.
Behar concluded the discussion by acknowledging her limits as a host: “Also, I don’t really feel like cooking for a bunch of people. I’m not running an Airbnb, okay?” The conversation seemed particularly relevant following a trending online story about a new mother setting boundaries with her in-laws during a lengthy visit.
