Kamala Harris Stephen Colbert Interview 2023

Vice President Kamala Harris appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Tuesday night, where she engaged in a lively discussion while enjoying a Miller High Life beer with the host. During the interview, Harris took the opportunity to critique former President Donald Trump on several issues, including his interactions with Russian President Vladimir Putin and the 2020 election results.

Addressing the audience, Harris criticized Trump for allegedly sending COVID-19 testing kits to Russia during the pandemic while American citizens were struggling to access them. “He thinks, well, that’s his friend,” Harris said. “What about the American people? They should be your first friend,” she added, expressing concern over Trump’s alleged favoritism towards foreign leaders at the expense of U.S. needs.

The appearance forms part of Harris’s media outreach strategy just weeks before an upcoming election. In recent days, Harris has appeared on various platforms, including CBS‘s 60 Minutes, the Call Her Daddy podcast, and the daytime show The View. Harris’s media blitz represents an effort to connect with voters following criticisms of her avoiding interviews.

In the interview, Harris confirmed the need for an immediate ceasefire in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. “We must have a ceasefire and hostage deal as immediately as possible. This war has got to end,” she stated, highlighting the urgency of resolving the situation.

Colbert brought up journalist Bob Woodward‘s recent revelations about Trump’s private communications with Putin and the donation of COVID-19 testing machines. Harris remarked on Trump’s alleged admiration for authoritarian leaders, suggesting that he gets “played” by such figures due to their flattery. “He openly admires dictators and authoritarians,” Harris asserted.

The live audience witnessed a lighter moment when Colbert mentioned “the vibe election,” suggesting voters want a candidate they can “have a beer with,” prompting Harris to humorously recall ordering the Miller High Life in advance. Referring to a viral debate moment with Trump, Harris, while maintaining the show’s clean language policy, humorously alluded to a censored expletive in response to her thoughts during that debate.

The interview underscored Harris’s focus on challenging Trump’s record while emphasizing her campaign’s message of change and readiness to address national concerns such as the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict and domestic challenges exacerbated by misinformation.
