Kamala Harris Set To Announce Running Mate Ahead Of Election

Kamala Harris is expected to announce her running mate on Tuesday morning, wrapping up two weeks of intense speculation as the US prepares for the upcoming presidential election in November.

Multiple sources indicate that Harris interviewed several top contenders over the weekend, including Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, all in Washington D.C.

Once the announcement is made, a campaign video will follow, and later in the evening, both Harris and her newly chosen running mate will hold a rally in Philadelphia.

According to reports, Ms. Harris is looking for a partner who shares her values and can take on the role effectively right away, similar to how President Biden described his choice of Harris as the best decision he ever made.

The recent CBS News poll shows Harris and former President Trump in a tight race nationally, with Harris holding just a one-point lead. In the battleground states, they are currently tied, with Trump ahead by five points.

Harris has been in the process of vetting candidates through a team led by former US Attorney General Eric Holder and met with some of the top contenders in person and virtually.

On Monday, as rumors intensified about her running mate selection, a campaign spokesperson clarified on social media that no decision had been made yet.

This announcement comes after the Democratic National Convention’s virtual roll call vote, where Harris officially became the first Black and South Asian American nominee for a major US party in a presidential campaign.

Following the announcement, there will be a series of campaign events across various states, including Wisconsin, Michigan, North Carolina, Georgia, and Arizona, finishing with an event in Las Vegas, Nevada, on August 10.

On the Republican side, Trump and his running mate, JD Vance, have both dismissed the significance of Harris’s choice of running mate, claiming it won’t affect the election outcome.
