Karmelo Anthony’s Family Plans to Use Fundraiser Money for Legal Defense

Frisco, Texas – Karmelo Anthony‘s family has raised over $515,000 on the crowdfunding platform GiveSendGo after the teenager was accused of fatally stabbing another boy during a high school track meet on April 2.
The Karmelo Anthony Help Fund has gained attention as one of the most-discussed fundraising campaigns recently, with the goal raised from $525,000 to $600,000. The funds have not yet been disbursed to the family, as the goal has not been met.
GiveSendGo co-founder Jacob Wells told Fox News Digital that the company is in communication with Anthony’s family regarding the intended use of the funds. Wells stated, “They’ve been very clear that the vast bulk of this money is going to be used for Karmelo’s legal defense.” He noted that part of the funds will also be used for the family’s security needs.
Wells further explained that the family is facing threats, prompting the need for relocation to a secure location. “They were renting before, and they’re continuing to rent. So it’s like, okay, $3,000 a month for the next year, year and a half,” he added.
The fundraiser’s purpose description was updated to clarify that the funds will not only cover legal expenses but also essential needs arising from their circumstances, such as transportation, counseling, and security measures.
According to previous statements from Next Generation Action Network (NGAN) President Dominique Alexander, the Anthony family has received death threats, leading to their relocation for safety. The threats reportedly include harassment at their residence and disturbing deliveries.
Wells assured donors that no funds would be misappropriated. He mentioned another campaign was removed from the platform for fraudulent practices but noted that the Anthony fundraiser’s integrity has been verified.
Following the stabbing incident, Anthony allegedly confessed to police, stating, “I did it.” He is currently charged with first-degree murder.
