Chauncy Glover Kcbs News Anchor

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Chauncy Glover, a 39-year-old news anchor for KCBS/KCAL in Los Angeles, died from acute intoxication by the combined effects of chloroethane and methamphetamine, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office. The office classified the manner of his death as an accident in a statement released Wednesday.

Glover was found unresponsive at his home on November 5, 2024, and was pronounced dead at the scene. His untimely passing has shocked both his colleagues and viewers in the community.

Chloroethane, a colorless gas used for numbing skin before medical procedures and treating sports injuries, was highlighted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The impact of these substances has reignited conversations about substance use and its consequences.

A prominent figure in broadcasting, Glover joined KCAL News in October 2023 after spending eight years at ABC affiliate KTRK in Houston. He co-anchored newscasts at 5 and 11 p.m. alongside Pat Harvey, and co-hosted the 8 and 10 p.m. segments with Suzie Suh.

Glover’s passion for journalism began at age five, sparked by his father’s construction of a mini anchor desk for him, providing the foundation for an impressive career. He studied broadcast journalism, music, and theater at Troy University in Alabama.

Born on July 10, 1985, in Athens, Alabama, Glover launched his television news career at WTVM in Columbus, Georgia, before transitioning to CBS 47 and Fox 30 in Jacksonville, Florida, as a reporter. He later worked as a lead late-night reporter at WDIV in Detroit, where he established The Chauncy Glover Project. This mentorship initiative for teenage boys earned him the title of Ambassador of the Year for his efforts in mentoring Detroit youth.

Recognized for his influential work, Glover was acknowledged by former President Barack Obama and the My Brother’s Keeper initiative for his commitment to helping young men navigate their futures.

In a heartfelt statement following his death, Glover’s family expressed their grief: “We are devastated by the unimaginable loss of our beloved Chauncy. He was a beacon of light in our lives and a true hero to his community. He changed countless lives and inspired many young men to pursue their dreams. His warmth and vision left a lasting imprint on everyone who knew him, and the world is dimmer without him.”
