LEXINGTON, Ky. — A vibrant atmosphere filled the air at Keeneland as crowds gathered for the last full weekend of racing, highlighted by a special performance of the National Anthem by country music star Wynonna Judd, a Kentucky native. The event took place Friday morning as fans eagerly awaited the day’s races.
Judd, known for her powerful voice and connection to her roots, took center stage in the paddock, captivating the audience before the horses took their turn. Attendee Sylvia Reed expressed her excitement, stating, “I am so glad that I got to see Wynonna. I have loved her my entire life. She was phenomenal.” Fellow racegoer Toni Gambrel also shared her admiration, remarking, “Her outfit with the flag, oh my gosh, it was amazing.”
Among the enthusiastic crowd was Dina Rhoads, recognized as “Employee of the Day” at Keeneland. Rhoads, who has been with the venue for three years, cherished the opportunity to meet Judd. “She pronounced my name right,” Rhoads laughed. “She asked me where I’m from, and I thanked her for coming. That is a special moment to be next to her!”
Reed took advantage of the beautiful weather, capturing memories as she prepares for her upcoming wedding. “She actually picked this out for me, so we’re going to take some engagement photos with this dress,” Reed noted, enjoying the sunshine on what was a perfect day for the event.
In addition to her performance at Keeneland, Wynonna Judd is scheduled to take the stage at Kroger Field on Saturday night as part of Tyler Childers’ “On the Road” tour, joined by special guest S.G. Goodman. The concert is set to begin at 6:30 p.m., promising another thrilling event for her fans in Lexington.
