Kerala Authorities File Criminal Case Against MSC Over Sinking Incident

KOCHI, India — After nearly three weeks of uncertainty, authorities in Kerala have filed a criminal case against MSC following the sinking of the MSC Elsa 3 off the coast of Cochin on May 24. This decision marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the incident.
The state’s move comes despite ongoing unconfirmed reports regarding the circumstances leading to the sinking. The MSC Elsa 3 has become a focal point for environmental and safety concerns, as well as the well-being of the crew members.
In a separate incident, the Singapore-flagged Wan Hai 503 container ship continues to burn along Kerala’s southern coastline, raising serious environmental alarms. Four crew members are currently missing, while five of the eighteen who abandoned ship have sustained serious injuries. Indian maritime forces have been actively involved in rescue operations amid the continuing threat to the marine environment.
Authorities have emphasized the necessity for accountability in these maritime incidents, particularly in light of potential ecological damage and the safety of seafarers. The investigation will aim to clarify the events leading to both the sinking of MSC Elsa 3 and the fire on the Wan Hai 503.
As the situation develops, officials are expected to provide further updates regarding the ongoing investigations and rescue efforts.
