Kia Launches EV9 Electric SUV in India with Advanced Features
In a significant development for the Indian automotive market, Kia India has introduced its luxury electric SUV, the Kia EV9. The launch event took place in New Delhi, marking a notable addition to Kia’s lineup in India. The Kia EV9 was first showcased by the company at last year’s Auto Expo, and it has now officially made its debut in the country.
The Kia EV9 is launched in India as a GT-Line trim that boasts of a range of advanced features. One of the major talking points is its starting price of Rs 1.3 crore (ex-showroom), as the vehicle is being imported to India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). This importation method contributes to its higher price point.
The design of the Kia EV9 is eye-catching, featuring attractive L-shaped daytime running lights (DRLs), vertically stacked LED headlamps, and a high-tech digital pattern lighting integrated with a closed-off grille. The rear end of the SUV includes vertical LED taillamps, a dual-tone bumper, and a spoiler. The dimensions of the vehicle are substantial, measuring 5,015 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width, and 1,780 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,100 mm.
As a six-seater SUV, the Kia EV9 offers ample comfort, especially with captain seats in the second row. Inside, the vehicle features a dual-screen display setup, including a 12.3-inch touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster, along with a four-spoke steering wheel. The interior sports a dual-tone brown and black color scheme, offering a premium feel.
Powering the Kia EV9 is a 99.8 kWh battery pack linked to dual electric motors, collectively delivering 384 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque. The SUV boasts a single-charge range of 561 kilometers, which comfortably covers the distance from Delhi to Lucknow. The vehicle accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.3 seconds, and its battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in only 24 minutes using a 350 kW DC fast charger.
The Kia EV9 is well-equipped with advanced features and safety measures, including electric adjustments, massage functions, and adjustable leg support. Other amenities include tri-zone climate control, dual electric sunroofs, a head-up display, and a 14-speaker Meridian audio system. On the safety front, it comes with 10 airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), hill descent control, and a 360-degree camera. It also includes Level-2 Advanced Driving Assistance System (ADAS) features like Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keep Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control.
Kia’s introduction of the EV9 highlights their commitment to luxury and safety with an array of cutting-edge technologies. Despite the higher price tag, the EV9 positions itself firmly within the premium segment due to its extensive features and innovative safety systems. The vehicle has even been awarded the prestigious World Car of the Year title for 2024.
Together with the EV9, Kia also launched the Carnival Limousine MPV, priced at Rs 63.9 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. Both these models underline Kia’s strategy of leveraging sustainability, advanced technology, and progressive design in the Indian market under the Kia KIN 2.0 transformation initiative that aims to enhance mobility experiences in India.
