Killeen ISD Youth Forum Engages Students with School Board Candidates

Killeen, Texas – The Making Our Society Stronger (MOSS) Foundation recently held a Candidate Youth Forum for the Killeen Independent School District (KISD). This student-led event encouraged civic awareness and participation among local youth.
Last week, student representatives from Chaparral High School, the Killeen ISD Career Center, and Early College High School gathered to engage with candidates running for the KISD Board of Trustees. The forum is part of MOSS’s commitment to enhancing academic excellence, community service, and mentorship.
The forum provided a platform for students to ask questions and discuss important issues with the candidates. Key topics included educational reform, funding allocations, and student mental health. “It’s essential for us as students to know what the candidates stand for,” said Brianna Harrelson, a representative from Chaparral High School.
The upcoming school board election is scheduled for Saturday, allowing students a vital opportunity to voice their opinions and participate in the democratic process. “We want to ensure that the student perspective is considered in decision-making,” said Oliver Mintz, another student representative.
Attendees expressed excitement about the forum, noting its role in empowering youth within the community. The MOSS Foundation hopes to continue organizing similar events to foster ongoing dialogue between students and elected officials.
As the election approaches, student involvement is more crucial than ever in shaping the future of KISD.
