No Kings Protests In Florida Cities

MIAMI, Florida — On October 18, millions of Americans will participate in the “No Kings” protests across the country, including about 81 cities in Florida. These protests are in response to various national issues such as immigration policies, tariffs, and perceived autocratic governance.

The protests come amid rising tensions and discontent among citizens regarding the current administration. Organizers expect approximately 2,500 protests nationwide.

Meanwhile, in separate news, a Brevard man, Jonathan Rinderknecht of Melbourne, has been indicted in Los Angeles for his alleged role in starting the Palisades fire, which prosecutors describe as one of the most destructive wildfires in the area’s history. He faces charges of destruction of property by fire and arson. His next court date is scheduled for later this month.

Additionally, rumors of a fourth stimulus check have circulated, with expected amounts ranging from $1,390 to $2,000. However, the IRS cautions the public against misinformation regarding these payments, as a proposed bill has yet to pass.

In another development, Florida Tech has partnered with a Houston-based nonprofit to provide free telehealth therapy sessions for restaurant workers facing hardships. The initiative, called “Behind You,” offers up to 20 counseling sessions to support mental health in this vital industry.

Amid these ongoing issues, Florida families benefiting from SNAP will see a slight increase in payments due to the annual Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA). The average increase of 2.7% comes as some relief against rising costs of living. Every month, over 3.5 million Floridians rely on these benefits to help meet their basic needs.

As the protests loom this weekend, communities across Florida are gearing up for increased civic engagement and social activism.
