Kings Seek Victory Over Bulls Amidst Injury Challenges

Sacramento, CA — The Sacramento Kings are preparing to host the Chicago Bulls on Thursday, March 20, at the Golden 1 Center, following a recent victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Despite injuries to several key players, the Kings aim to extend their winning streak during a crucial seven-game homestand, with the game scheduled to tip-off at 10 p.m. ET.
In their last matchup, the Kings edged out the Cavaliers 123-119, showcasing resilience even in the absence of star guard Zach LaVine, center Domantas Sabonis, and emerging wing Jake LaRavia. DeMar DeRozan led the Kings with 27 points and praised his team’s ability to compete under pressure. “It was a grit, a grind,” DeRozan said. “Not having Zach, not having Jake, not having Do (Sabonis), we knew we had to protect our home court.”
On Wednesday, the Bulls suffered a defeat against the Phoenix Suns, losing 127-121. Nikola Vucevic scored 24 points but the Bulls couldn’t overcome a significant third-quarter deficit, even as they fought back to within four points by the game’s end. Bulls head coach Billy Donovan expressed pride in his team’s effort, stating, “The group’s been great as it relates to the effort and energy.”
As the Kings prepare for the Friday night battle, they are faced with injury challenges. Sabonis remains sidelined with a right ankle sprain, while LaVine is out due to personal reasons. LaRavia is listed as questionable due to illness. In contrast, the Bulls have Josh Giddey and Patrick Williams listed as questionable, with Giddey returning from a previous ankle injury. Donovan said, “We’ll see how he responds. He looked like he was moving well out there.”
The Kings won their last game in impressive fashion, with significant contributions from their bench players. Jonas Valanciunas posted a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, while Malik Monk added 22 points off the bench. “They’re bringing energy,” DeRozan said regarding his teammates. “We knew when our second group comes in, they bring a different type of energy.”
With the Kings and Bulls sitting close in their respective conference standings, this game holds playoff implications. Both teams are currently vying for pivotal positions as they approach the end of the season. DeRozan emphasized the importance of every game in the stretch run: “We’re home for a while and we need to win every single one of these games at home.”
The Kings are favored by 6.5 points in this matchup, with an over/under total set at 234.5. This game represents a critical opportunity for both teams to solidify their playoff aspirations amidst varying injury statuses.
