Kristen Bell to Host 2025 SAG Awards Live on Netflix

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 23, 2025 — Award-winning actor Kristen Bell will return as the host of the 31st Annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards, streaming live on Netflix at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT. This marks Bell’s second time helming the event after her hosting debut in 2018.
“I’m thrilled to be hosting the SAG Awards again this year,” Bell said in a statement. “I’m honored to be asked back and can’t wait to share the evening with my fellow actors, doing what we do best … celebrating ourselves.”
The SAG Awards celebrate outstanding performances in film and television, as voted on by the actors’ union, SAG-AFTRA, whose membership exceeds 122,000. Silent House Productions is set to produce this year’s event, with Jon Brockett serving as executive producer.
Joey King and Cooper Koch will announce the nominations on January 8, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. ET. The awards will recognize performances from the previous year, including films and television shows that have garnered critical acclaim.
“Kristen Bell’s wit, warmth, and charm make her the perfect fit for our show — a night celebrating actors and the outstanding performances of the year,” Brockett added.
Bell currently stars alongside Adam Brody in the comedy series “Nobody Wants This,” where she plays Joanne, an outspoken woman who forms an unconventional relationship with a rabbi. Her recent credits also include the Amazon Prime film “The People We Hate at the Wedding.”
The SAG Awards have historically been seen as a precursor to the Academy Awards, reflecting the preferences of the acting branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Recent winners like “Parasite,” “CODA,” and “Everything Everywhere All at Once” won top ensemble honors at the SAG Awards.
This year, the nominations are expected to showcase strong contenders, notably “Wicked,” “A Complete Unknown,” and “Anora,” as well as popular television shows like “Bridgerton” and “Abbott Elementary.”
In a significant acknowledgment, Jane Fonda will be honored with the SAG Life Achievement Award during the ceremony, presented by Julia Louis-Dreyfus. This award recognizes individuals who have improved the image of the acting profession.
“I am deeply honored and humbled to be this year’s recipient of the SAG Life Achievement Award,” Fonda stated. “There’s no honor like the one bestowed upon you by your peers.”
The updated format, which reintroduces a host after years without one, aims to enhance viewer engagement, according to producers. The public can catch the live stream of the SAG Awards through the Netflix platform.
The pre-show will be hosted by Lilly Singh and Sasheer Zamata, beginning at 7 p.m. ET, an hour before the main event, allowing viewers to catch behind-the-scenes moments and interviews with this year’s nominees.
The SAG Awards remains a highlight of the annual award calendar as it uniquely celebrates the contributions of actors in both film and television.
