Kyren Lacy Lsu Football Accident

HOMA, Louisiana — An attorney for the late Kyren Lacy, a former LSU wide receiver, asserted Friday that new evidence proves Lacy was not responsible for a fatal car accident in December 2024 which resulted in charges of negligent homicide and felony hit-and-run against him. Lacy’s attorney, Matt Ory, presented the information during an interview with HTV10.

The accident occurred on December 17, 2024, in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, causing the death of 78-year-old Herman Hall. Ory explained that surveillance footage shows Lacy’s car was over 72 yards behind the collision at the time of the impact, stating, “Key word, behind the vehicles. That is not how this story was ever painted. Never.”

Initially, police had claimed Lacy was driving recklessly, crossing a centerline to pass slower vehicles, which led to a chain reaction crash. According to a report from Louisiana State Police, a pickup truck had to brake and swerve to avoid Lacy’s car, prompting a second vehicle to also veer into oncoming traffic, resulting in Hall’s death.

In the HTV10 interview, Ory cited the district attorney’s report, which he says contradicts earlier police statements. The new evidence reveals that Lacy was not actively involved in the crash as he was returning to his lane at the time the accident occurred.

After the crash, Lacy allegedly fled the scene but later turned himself in and faced multiple charges. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on April 12, 2025, just two days before he was due to appear before a grand jury.

Ory reiterated that Lacy was cooperative with authorities until his untimely death. He said, “He didn’t cause the accident,” emphasizing that Lacy was merely passing other vehicles well ahead of the incident.

In his defense, Ory also pointed to inconsistencies in witness statements and questioned the handling of evidence by law enforcement, including why a passenger in Lacy’s car was not interviewed about the accident.

The Louisiana State Police responded to Ory’s claims, maintaining that their investigation indicated that Lacy’s reckless driving led to the crash. They stated, “No one disputes that he was behind the crash scene,” but attributed the series of events to his actions leading up to the collision.
