Amid wildfires in Labrador, Labrador West Health Centre in Labrador City has evacuated patients and closed emergency services until further notice. Thousands evacuated to Happy Valley-Goose Bay following the evacuation order, over 500 kilometers away, with the hospital and walk-in services shutdown. Ambulances are on standby for emergencies, while NLHS transfers patients to other facilities, mainly the Labrador Health Centre in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

Approximately 1,500 people are at the E J Broomfield Arena in Happy Valley-Goose Bay post-evacuation, with thousands more expected to arrive. Wabush residents are preparing for a potential evacuation after a fire service response was late, according to Mayor Ron Barron.

Lisa Parmiter, a local resident, shared her experience of the evacuation, noting the community spirit and support from volunteers at gas stations. Perry Trimper, Liberal MHA for Lake Melville, and his team are coordinating accommodations in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, ensuring resources for over 9,500 people despite challenges like gas shortages and pet accommodation.
