Lake Tahoe Recreation Sites Opening Dates Announced for Summer Season

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. – As warm weather approaches, the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) has announced the opening dates for national forest recreation sites around Lake Tahoe.
With snow melting and spring conditions settling in, many visitors are eager to enjoy the region’s beaches and campgrounds. LTBMU officials expressed initial concern about staffing issues due to recent cuts, but existing concessionaire agreements will help facilitate the opening process.
Before these sites can welcome the public, however, cleanup efforts must take place. This includes removing safety hazards like dead trees and ensuring restroom water systems are ready for use after the risk of freeze has passed. All announced opening dates are tentative and could change based on weather and site conditions.
Some key opening dates include:
- Inspiration Point – May 23
- Logan Shoals Vista Point – May 24
- Tallac Historic Site – May 24
- Taylor Creek Visitor Center – May 24
- Zephyr Cove Stables – April 14
- Round Hill Pines Resort – May 1
- Camp Richardson Resort’s Eagle’s Nest and Badger’s Den campgrounds – May 7
- Fallen Leaf and other campgrounds – May 23
- Echo Chalet – May 25
- Watson Lake Campground – May 30
Additional dates for beaches and picnic areas include:
- Sandpit Off-Highway Vehicle Area – May 10
- Baldwin and other beaches – May 16
- Mt. Tallac Trailhead – May 17
- Eagle Falls Picnic Area & Trailhead – May 23
Until the sites are fully operational, parking, trash services, and restrooms will not be available. Visitors are urged to plan ahead, pack out trash, and clean up after pets where allowed. Additionally, pets are not permitted at several designated swim beaches for health reasons.
