Las Vegas Extreme Heat Warning

LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Much of Southern Nevada is under an Extreme Heat Warning that will last through Tuesday night. With temperatures approaching record highs, residents are expressing concern about the heat.

On Tuesday, locals shared their thoughts on the extreme conditions while in the Arts District. Anthony Chavez, a lifelong resident, described the heat as overwhelming. “It’s burning right now, if I could describe it!” he said. Chavez noted that this year’s heat has made it hard to breathe and has even caused him anxiety.

John and Susan Griffin, who moved to Las Vegas a year and a half ago, shared their own experiences with the intense heat. “I really questioned my sanity moving here and buying a place,” Susan said with a laugh. Despite loving their new home, she admitted that she has thought about leaving the city during the hottest months. John joked that he was sticking with 10 when asked how many record highs they thought had been set this year.

So far in 2025, Las Vegas has tied or broken five record high temperatures at Harry Reid International Airport. Records indicate that two records were set in February, two in April, and one on the last day of May, when temperatures reached 105 degrees.

Comparatively, by June 10 last year, only four records had been tied or set, one each in January and May, and two in June. The city experienced sweltering highs of 111 and 110 degrees on June 6 and 7 last year, respectively.

The increase in record-breaking temperatures thus far in 2025 raises concerns about the summer ahead. Anthony Chavez noted, “The way it’s feeling dude, it feels like there’s a new record being broken every day!” He expressed anxiety over the rising temperatures so early in June, suggesting he might expect these highs later in the summer.
