Maryland Lottery Scratch Off Winner

Laurel, MD — A Howard County man is celebrating a $50,000 win after playing a Mega Bucks scratch-off ticket. Ramiro Polanco Mendez purchased the ticket during a daily walk on June 17, 2025, at the Exxon located at 801 Washington Boulevard.

While out for his stroll, Mendez bought two $10 Mega Bucks tickets. After scratching the first ticket, he was disappointed to find it was not a winner. However, the second ticket revealed a shocking message: a $50,000 prize. “I couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” he said, recalling the moment. “I had to scan it to be sure.”

Mendez claimed his prize the following day, bringing along a family member for support. He plans to use his winnings to invest in a small business.

“This win will help me start a new chapter in my life,” he added.

The Mega Bucks scratch-off, launched in November 2024, has several prizes still available, including many top-tier prizes. After Mendez’s win, only four $50,000 prizes remain. The game also offers lower-tier prizes, increasing the excitement for players.

The Maryland Lottery encourages responsible play among its participants. Players must be at least 18 years old for lottery games. For winnings up to $600, winners can redeem tickets at any Maryland Lottery retailer. Prizes over $600 must be claimed in person or via mail, and larger prizes require appointments at the Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

The Maryland Lottery has generated over $20 billion for the state since its inception in 1973, contributing to various public programs.
