Jay Z Sean Combs Lawsuit News

NEW YORK, Feb. 14, 2025 — A civil lawsuit accusing Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter and Sean “Diddy” Combs of raping a 13-year-old girl in 2000 has been dismissed, according to court filings made in New York federal court on Friday.

The plaintiff, referred to as Jane Doe, voluntarily dismissed her case “with prejudice,” meaning it cannot be refiled. This filing comes months after Jay-Z’s legal team requested that the court dismiss the case, claiming it lacked merit.

Jay-Z’s attorney, Alex Spiro, stated the lawsuit was a “false case” and emphasized that Jay-Z “never settled” or paid the accuser. “By standing up in the face of heinous and false allegations, Jay has done what few can — he pushed back,” Spiro said.

The lawsuit was initially filed against Combs in October 2024, alleging he assaulted a minor at a house party following the MTV Video Music Awards. The complaint was amended in December to include Jay-Z, alleging both men took turns assaulting the young girl. Both rappers have steadfastly denied these allegations.

In a statement on Friday, Jay-Z characterized the claims as “frivolous, fictitious, and appalling,” asserting that the suit “was without merit and never going anywhere.” He also pointed out that the case caused trauma to his wife, Beyoncé, and their family. “The trauma that my wife, my children, my loved ones and I have endured can never be dismissed,” he wrote.

Jay-Z referred to an NBC News investigation that cited inconsistencies in the plaintiff’s account, including interactions with musician Benji Madden who was confirmed not to be a participant at the event in question.

Federal authorities have been investigating Combs for over a year regarding allegations of sexual misconduct. Combs, who has been held without bail since September 2024, faces a criminal indictment for racketeering and sex trafficking, with a trial scheduled for May 5, 2025.

The lawsuit that was dismissed on Friday was one of 40 civil suits filed against Combs, making it notable for its high-profile defendants. In response to the lawsuit’s dismissal, Combs’ legal team issued a statement expressing confidence that the allegations “are built on falsehoods, not facts.” They maintained that Combs has never assaulted anyone.

Attorney Tony Buzbee, who represented Jane Doe, has filed multiple lawsuits against Combs but declined to comment on the dismissal. In previous statements, Jay-Z had mentioned how the legal system should protect the innocent, advocating for serious consideration of both victims and those wrongfully accused.
