Legal Dispute Surrounds Mamootty Starrer ‘Bramayugam’ Character Name Change
The upcoming release of the highly anticipated film ‘Bramayugam’ starring iconic actor Mammootty has been embroiled in a legal battle over the character name alteration. Originally named Kunjamon Potti in the movie, the central character has now been renamed to Kodumon Potti due to a petition filed by the head of Punjamon Illam, a long-standing Brahmin household in Kottayam.
The complaint lodged in the High Court accused the film of being based on their family lineage and casting negative shadows on their heritage. The petition went further to call for the revocation of the film’s certification by the Censor Board.
The Censor Board recently received the application for the character name change, which has been duly approved, further complicating the prior legal tussle.
‘Bramayugam’ marks a venture into the horror genre set in the 18th century, with Mammootty in the lead role. The film, shot in black-and-white, also stars Arjun Ashokan, Siddharth Bharathan, Manikandan Achari, and Amalda Liz, under the direction of Rahul Sadasivan, known for ‘Bhoothakalam’.
The production of ‘Bramayugam’ is backed by Chakravarthy Ramachandran and S Sashikanth, and promises to be a captivating cinematic experience for fans eagerly awaiting its release.
