Lincoln Streets Face Closures for Mayor’s Run and Marathon This Weekend

LINCOLN, Neb. — Lincoln drivers should prepare for significant street closures and traffic delays this weekend as the annual Mayor’s Run and Lincoln Marathon events will take place on May 3-4.
About 2,000 elementary-age students are expected to participate in the Mayor’s Run on Saturday, while more than 7,000 runners will take part in the Marathon or Half Marathon on Sunday.
The Mayor’s Run is set to begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 3, on the south side of the Nebraska State Capitol. The Lincoln Marathon and Half Marathon will kick off at 6:55 a.m. Sunday, May 4, at 14th and Vine streets and will finish at Stadium Drive and T Street.
Spectators are encouraged to cheer for the runners along the course and at the start and finish lines. The Lincoln Police Department will manage traffic control at intersections along the race route, advising community members to anticipate traffic delays.
LPD will provide live updates on intersection reopenings via its X account, @Lincoln_Police, during the marathon on Sunday.
Traffic closures on Saturday, May 3, will occur from 6 to 11 a.m., while Sunday, May 4, will see closures from midnight to 2 p.m., with various streets affected during different hours. Limited access to Holmes Lake Park will also be in effect between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m.
