Have you ever seen a sunflower that’s a staggering nine feet tall? If you’re in Orford, you might just get the chance! There are two incredible sunflowers growing in front of one family’s home.

Nicola Cobley, the proud gardener, has been growing sunflowers in her front yard on Amelia Street for over ten years. Each year, these stunning flowers seem to grow taller, now towering over the brick wall that surrounds her garden.

This year, it was Nicola’s daughter, Amelia, who took charge, planting the sunflowers using seeds saved from last year’s blooms.

In a delightful surprise, these flowers shot up to an impressive nine feet, making quite the impression on passersby.

Speaking with the Warrington Guardian, Nicola smiled as she shared, “We do it every year. We are known on our street for planting them every year. We save the heads and take the seeds out to re-plant. They reached eight feet last year, but this year they’ve shot right up!”

Nicola also highlighted how much joy her eight-year-old daughter Amelia gets from watching these flowers flourish. “She’s out there every morning checking on them,” she added. “Amelia plans to take the heads into her school, Oakwood Avenue Primary, to show all her classmates at the start of the new school year.”

And just to give you an idea of how tall these sunflowers really are, there are pictures of Amelia standing on the garden wall next to them, looking tiny in comparison!

Keep your eyes peeled for these festive flowers; you definitely won’t miss them!
