Los Angeles DA Reviews Sex Abuse Case Involving Marilyn Manson
Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced on Wednesday that a sex abuse case involving the musician Marilyn Manson, whose real name is Brian Warner, is under review by the office’s Sex Crimes Division.
In a statement, Gascón disclosed that prosecutors are examining “new leads and additional evidence” being collected by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. He noted that “new evidence” has surfaced over the past few weeks.
“It is our office’s responsibility to ensure that we have a complete picture of the admissible evidence available before making a filing decision,” Gascón stated. “Senior staff members have met with victims, and our prosecutors continue to remain in contact with the victims and their representatives throughout this process.” He further remarked that although he has “received requests from victims to meet personally to discuss the case,” it would be “inappropriate” to meet as the case is under investigation.
This announcement comes two years after the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department initially submitted findings related to Warner and allegations of sexual abuse against the musician.
On Wednesday, the district attorney mentioned that his office anticipates “making a filing decision soon and will provide an update when that time comes.” He added, “At that time, I look forward to meeting with the victims to discuss how my office can continue to support them.”
Since 2021, when actor Evan Rachel Wood publicly named Warner as her alleged abuser, the artist has faced multiple allegations. Warner has consistently denied all claims against him.
In a separate development, Warner appealed a judge’s decision from August to dismiss parts of his defamation and emotional distress lawsuit against Wood and her friend, artist Illma Gore, in California. The lawsuit arose more than two years after Warner initiated legal action against Wood and Gore.
In July, a woman named Bianca Kyne publicly identified herself following a recent ruling in her lawsuit against Warner, which alleges sexual assault. Kyne claims Warner assaulted her multiple times in the 1990s when she was a minor.
