Louisville Winter Weather School Closures

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Several Louisville-area schools and businesses announced closures and delays Monday as a winter storm brought snow, sleet, and freezing rain to the region, creating hazardous road conditions. The inclement weather disrupted plans for some school districts, including Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS), which had been set to resume classes after winter break.

JCPS officials confirmed that all schools would be closed Monday, treating it as a traditional snow day with no online learning. ‘All after-school athletic and extracurricular activities are canceled for Monday,’ a district text message to parents stated. Families enrolled in the Child Enrichment Program (CEP) were advised to await further updates.

Other districts, including Oldham County Schools and Bullitt County Public Schools, also canceled extracurricular activities Sunday and announced closures for Monday. Oldham County students, already on winter break, are scheduled to return Tuesday, with district officials planning to make a decision on Tuesday’s classes by Monday evening.

Shelby County Schools and Spencer County Public Schools also closed Monday, with Shelby County Superintendent Joshua Matthews declaring it a traditional snow day. Greater Clark County Schools opted for asynchronous eLearning, while the Kentucky School for the Blind shifted to a nontraditional instruction day.

The Archdiocese of Louisville announced closures for all elementary and high schools Monday. Meanwhile, the University of Louisville, whose students remain on winter break, closed campus offices. Bellarmine University canceled in-person classes but held online sessions as scheduled.

Local businesses and government offices, including CHI Saint Joseph Health clinics, the Jefferson County Clerk’s Office, and the Louisville Zoo, also reported closures or delays. The Robley Rex VA Medical Center delayed outpatient clinic openings until 9 a.m., while Rumpke announced trash and recycling collection delays.

Residents are advised to check local updates and exercise caution on roadways as the winter weather persists.
