Louisville Police Shoot Suspect in Fatal Cypress Street Shooting
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A suspect in a fatal shooting was hospitalized after being shot by Louisville Metro Police officers in the city’s west end on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025. The incident occurred following a confrontation in the 1300 block of Cypress Street, where a woman was fatally shot earlier in the day.
According to Louisville Metro Police Chief Paul Humphrey, officers responded to reports of a shooting around 1 p.m. and found a woman who had been shot multiple times. She was transported to University of Louisville Hospital, where she later died. Police identified the suspect as Joshua Miller and began canvassing the area.
Around 3 p.m., officers located Miller in an alley near the scene of the shooting. As they approached, Miller allegedly fired at the officers, prompting them to return fire. After a brief foot pursuit, Miller was shot at least once by police and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was later arrested upon his release from the hospital.
Chief Humphrey confirmed that body camera footage of the incident exists and will be released within 10 business days. The shooting is under investigation by LMPD’s Public Integrity Unit. No officers or bystanders were injured during the confrontation.
This marks the second officer-involved shooting in Louisville within 24 hours. Earlier, a suspect in the shooting of an Orange County, Indiana, deputy was also shot by police. Humphrey praised the officers for their bravery, stating,
