LSU Tigers Battle Arkansas in 2025 College World Series Opener

OMAHA, Neb. — LSU baseball is set to compete in its 20th College World Series, making it one of only seven schools in NCAA history to achieve this milestone. The Tigers (48-15) will face off against the Arkansas Razorbacks (48-13) on Saturday, June 14, at 6 p.m. CT at Charles Schwab Field.
This matchup sees LSU coming off a successful Super Regional, where the team swept West Virginia to clinch its 10th title in that round. Coach Jay Johnson expressed confidence in his team’s performance this season, stating, “I’m very proud of our team’s consistency this season. We’re very tough to beat when we have all phases going.”
Historically, LSU has excelled in the NCAA Tournament, claiming seven national championships, the second-most in NCAA history. The Tigers secured their last title in 2023, and are competing in the tournament for the 13th straight year. This season marks their second time as a Top 8 national seed in three years.
LSU boasts an impressive .708 winning percentage in NCAA Tournament games, with 182 victories. The team has achieved 20 CWS berths over the past 40 years, the only school to do so. The Tigers have had numerous successful coaches, including Skip Bertman and Paul Mainieri, who helped guide the program to several championships.
In contrast, Arkansas enters the tournament as a No. 3 national seed, they are undefeated in the tournament after triumphing in the Regional and Super Regional rounds. The Razorbacks are led by SEC Player of the Year Wehiwa Aloy, who has contributed significantly with a .348 batting average, 20 home runs, and 64 RBIs.
The match between LSU and Arkansas is expected to be an intense competition, with LSU holding a historical edge in their rivalry, leading the all-time series 79-45. LSU’s recent performance, combined with Arkansas’s strong offense, sets the stage for a thrilling game.
