Lucid Recalls 875 Air Sedans Over Rearview Camera Issue
Newark, California — Lucid Motors has issued an over-the-air recall for 875 units of its 2022–2025 Air sedans in Canada and the U.S. due to a software glitch affecting the rearview camera. The problem can cause the camera to show a blank or delayed image when the vehicle is in reverse.
Documents submitted to Transport Canada and the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reveal that the affected vehicles are running software versions prior to 2.8.0. Lucid discovered that the camera issue may result in a blank screen displaying a warning message or a lagging feed, posing an increased risk of collisions.
The automaker traced the blank screen to a software bug that caused the rearview camera to malfunction when frame rates dropped below a specific threshold. To address this, the company implemented a debounce timer in the 2.8.0 software update to stabilize the camera system.
The delay in the camera image was linked to vehicles equipped with an earlier version of the Center Console Controller and the AD02 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems package. While the exact cause of the delay was not fully identified, Lucid was able to resolve the issue with the same update.
“Lucid determined that certain model year 2022–2025 Lucid Air vehicles operating on software versions prior to version 2.8.0 may experience either of two issues: a blank rearview monitor screen or a lag in the rearview monitor image,” the company stated in its safety filing. “Updating all Air vehicles to version 2.8.0 or later resolves both issues.”
Lucid released the fix in August 2025. However, data indicated that ten customer vehicles in Canada and 865 in the U.S. had not yet installed the update, leading to the recall.
The automaker confirmed that all new vehicles leaving the factory since August have been equipped with the latest software.
