Luka Dončić Kobe Bryant Mural Restoration

Los Angeles, CA — Luka Dončić, the star player of the Los Angeles Lakers, donated $5,000 on Tuesday to support the restoration of a mural honoring Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna, after it was vandalized. The mural, located at the intersection of 14th and Main streets, captures a heartfelt moment of Bryant embracing his daughter, who is holding a basketball.

The artwork was defaced with black and white paint, obscuring the tribute to the Hall of Fame player, who spent his entire career with the Lakers and won five NBA championships. The donation from Dončić is part of a larger effort to restore the mural, with a GoFundMe campaign set up to raise funds for repairs.

“Kobe is LA. He and Gigi mean so much to this city, to the Lakers organization and to me personally,” Dončić said in a statement. “I’m happy to do anything to help make sure he and his daughter are honored.” His contribution has helped the fundraiser surpass its initial goal, as it reached over $5,400 by midday.

The mural, designed by artist Louie Palsino, was created after the tragic helicopter crash on January 26, 2020, that claimed the lives of Kobe, Gianna, and seven others. Palsino expressed gratitude for Dončić’s donation, stating it would help ensure the mural receives protective treatment to prevent further vandalism.

“This is Los Angeles,” said Vanessa Bryant, Kobe’s widow, in a post about the mural. “The city of angels, where iconic teams and moments have etched their place in history.” Police have not yet identified any suspects related to the vandalism. The community continues to rally behind the restoration efforts, reflecting the deep affection and respect for Bryant’s legacy.
