Luka Dončić Lakers Game Denver March 2025

DENVER, CO — The Los Angeles Lakers achieved a significant victory Saturday night, ending the Denver Nuggets‘ nine-game winning streak with a commanding performance led by new star Luka Dončić.

Dončić, who recently joined the Lakers from the Dallas Mavericks, showcased his potential with 32 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, and four steals. This performance marked a turning point for the 25-year-old as he started to find his rhythm in a Lakers uniform after struggling in his initial games.

“Finally feel like myself a little bit,” Dončić said. “This is what I love. Just finally being myself a little bit, that’s why I was smiling all game.”

LeBron James also had a standout performance, contributing 25 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and three blocks. Their partnership on the court was evident as they led the Lakers from the start, establishing a commanding presence against their rivals.

“I am a natural-born wide receiver and he’s a natural-born quarterback,” James joked about his chemistry with Dončić.

Dončić acknowledged the ongoing process of building team chemistry, stating, “This is my fourth game. Chemistry takes time. You saw today that it’s getting better. Every day, it’s getting better.”

The Lakers displayed a strong defensive effort, forcing the Nuggets into 22 turnovers while committing only nine themselves. Although Nikola Jokic recorded his 26th triple-double of the season, he struggled against the Lakers’ defense, shooting only 2-of-7 from the field.

“It was their night,” said Nuggets player Jamal Murray. “Offensively and defensively.”

This victory was especially significant for the Lakers as it was their first win in Denver since April 10, 2022. The win comes after a recent stretch where the Lakers had won 14 of their last 18 contests, signaling a potential resurgence as they aim for a deep playoff run.

“We’re confident,” coach J.J. Reddick remarked. “Every time we step on the floor, we believe we can win.”

As the Lakers look forward, they will face the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday in what promises to be an exciting matchup. After a rocky start in his first three games with Los Angeles, Dončić is beginning to flourish, averaging 24.0 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 8.0 assists in the last three games.

With Dončić listed as available for the Clippers game, fans are eager to see how he continues to develop within the Lakers’ system, following one of the most talked-about trades in NBA history.

The game is set to begin at 10:00 p.m. EST and will be broadcast on ESPN, drawing national attention to the Lakers as they seek to extend their winning streak.
