Veterans Day Celebration

The Mabelle B. Avery Middle School is set to honor military veterans with a comprehensive celebration on Veterans Day, November 11, 2024. The event aims to bring together the community to express gratitude towards veterans for their service and sacrifices.

The celebration will commence at 7:45 AM with breakfast, providing an opportunity for attendees to gather and socialize before the official events begin. As detailed in the school’s agenda, the introduction to the ceremony is scheduled to start at 8:23 AM.

One of the key highlights of the ceremony will be the Presentation of the Colors by the American Legion Honor Guard, set to occur at 8:27 AM. This will be followed by a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance at 8:32 AM, a significant moment of national unity and reflection.

The school has arranged for performances from its band and choir to enhance the patriotic atmosphere. The band will perform “My Country Tis of Thee,” followed by the choir’s rendition of “Coming Home.” A notable solo performance of the “Star Spangled Banner” will also take place, ensuring a musical honors worthy of the occasion.

A unique aspect of the event, scheduled for 8:40 AM, is a segment titled “Compassion and Action in the Military and ‘Going Beyond Thank You.'” This portion will include an explanation of a service project that highlights the importance of taking meaningful actions in supporting the military community beyond verbal appreciation.

An interactive Q and A session with a panel of veterans will occur at 8:47 AM, allowing participants to engage directly with those who have served in the armed forces. This will be followed by “boot camp” style relay races introduced at 9:07 AM, providing a healthy and educational experience that mimics military training activities.

The event will conclude with closing sentiments shared at 9:23 AM, marking the end of the morning’s celebrations in honor of the veterans. The entire agenda is designed to foster respect and appreciation for veterans while educating students and community members about the significance of military service.
