Mafia: The Old Country Offers Linear Experience, Departing from Open World

NEW YORK, NY — 2K Games and developer Hangar 13 unveiled new gameplay footage for their upcoming title, Mafia: The Old Country, on May 8, 2025. The game, set in the early 1900s, promises a unique experience distinct from traditional open-world competition in the organized crime genre.
Hangar 13 emphasized that Mafia: The Old Country will not be a “forever game.” Instead, the studio describes it as “a focused, linear experience that combines quality storytelling, authentic era immersion, and a refined take on the familiar Mafia gameplay.” They aim to deliver a story that is “gritty, grounded, brutal and emotional.”
Nick Baynes, president of Hangar 13, expressed confidence in this narrative approach, believing it allows for more depth and connection to the characters and story.
David Ismalier, president of publisher 2K, reinforced this vision. He stated, “We think there’s a large audience for compelling stories that don’t require massive time commitments.” Ismalier added that The Old Country can “easily complement the other more persistent games our players also love.”
The pricing structure of Mafia: The Old Country further aligns with its focused design. The base game will retail for $49.99, while a Deluxe Edition will be available for $59.99, which includes various extras.
Players interested in a more traditional Mafia gameplay experience can refer to the newly released gameplay video. In it, protagonist Enzo Favara navigates his way through Don Torrisi’s crime family, showcasing the game’s rich storytelling and immersive backdrop of 1900s Sicily.
Mafia: The Old Country is set to launch on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X on August 8, 2025.
