FARMVILLE, Va. (WSET) — A 2.8 magnitude earthquake struck just north of Farmville on Tuesday afternoon, May 6, 2025, at 1:08 p.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
The tremor was felt across Central Virginia, with reports from residents in Colonial Heights, North Chesterfield, and the Fan District in Richmond. Many locals experienced the shake and took to social media to share their reactions.
Several viewers called into CBS 6 expressing their surprise at the sudden jolt. “I thought it was just a heavy truck passing by,” said a resident from Colonial Heights. “Then the ground started shaking, and I knew it was something more.”
