Earthquake Myanmar India Border

NEW DELHI, India — A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck the Myanmar-India border region on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ). The quake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers (6.21 miles).

As of now, there have been no confirmed reports of damage or casualties resulting from this seismic event. Tremors were felt in various areas throughout Northeast India, particularly in Dimapur district of Nagaland and the city of Shillong in Meghalaya.

Local authorities are currently assessing the impact of the earthquake on the region. In a related seismic event, a moderate tremor measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale was reported near Yairipok around 11:06 AM on the same day. The epicenter of this earthquake was located approximately 44 kilometers east of Yairipok, but like the larger quake, there were no reports of injuries or damages.

The German Research Centre for Geosciences issued an update on the earthquake, highlighting its magnitude and depth but confirming the absence of significant destruction or casualties as a result of the tremors. Experts urge residents in the affected areas to remain vigilant and prepared for aftershocks.
