Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Offers Resignation After BJP’s Lok Sabha Performance
Following the disappointing performance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the recently held Lok Sabha Elections in Maharashtra, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has offered to resign from his post. The BJP managed to secure only 9 seats in the state, including significant constituencies like Nagpur, Mumbai North, Satara, Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg, and Palghar.
Fadnavis, addressing the media, took full responsibility for the party’s lackluster performance and expressed his desire to focus on party organization moving forward. He has requested the BJP leadership to relieve him of his state government responsibilities so he can work diligently for the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra.
Asserting that he is not one to shirk responsibility, Fadnavis pledged to address the shortcomings that led to the electoral setback. He emphasized the need for a fresh strategy in Maharashtra, underlining the BJP’s commitment to engaging with the public effectively.
Analyzing the election dynamics in Maharashtra, Fadnavis highlighted the close margins in several constituencies, pointing out that the vote share difference between the BJP-led alliance and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) was minimal despite the seat gap. While the MVA secured 30 seats, the vote share remained nearly even between the two alliances.
Across the national electoral landscape, the NDA alliance emerged victorious in 292 seats, with the BJP alone clinching 240 seats. The alliance’s performance was bolstered by allies like the JD(U) and TDP. On the other hand, the INDIA bloc, comprising the Congress and allies such as the Samajwadi Party, TMC, and DMK, secured wins in 234 seats.
