I 75 I 85 Crash Atlanta

ATLANTA, Ga. — Authorities closed the I-75/I-85 southbound connector for several hours on Friday to investigate a serious crash that occurred early in Midtown Atlanta.

The incident took place at approximately 3:20 a.m. near the North Avenue exit, causing significant traffic delays as debris covered the roadway. Traffic updates indicated that the situation was dire as multiple vehicles were involved, though details about injuries remain unclear.

Triple Team Traffic’s Mike Shields reported the lanes remained closed while crews worked to clear the area. Around 6:30 a.m., officials announced the reopening of two lanes, but cleanup continued as debris and shattered glass littered the highway.

Georgia Department of Transportation officials noted that at least three cars were confirmed to be involved in the collision. Eyewitness accounts described one vehicle overturned against the median, exacerbating the chaotic scene. Motorists were advised to divert onto Northside Drive or I-285 while emergency personnel addressed the situation.

Investigators from the Georgia State Patrol and Atlanta police are looking into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Traffic in the area has shown signs of improvement following the reopening, but delays persisted as vehicles navigated through remnants of the incident.

This crash adds to the challenges facing Atlanta’s transportation network. Previous incidents and ongoing construction have made travel in the area difficult lately, raising concerns among commuters.

Drivers and residents are urged to remain vigilant while traveling in high-traffic areas, especially during early morning hours. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and more information will be shared as it becomes available.
