Nashville Snowstorm January 2025

A significant winter storm swept through Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky on Friday, January 6, 2025, bringing heavy snowfall and disrupting travel across the region. The snowstorm, which began in the early morning hours, is expected to leave accumulations of 4 to 6 inches in most areas, with higher totals possible in southern Middle Tennessee.

Snowfall started in western Middle Tennessee between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m., spreading eastward to Nashville and along Interstate 65 by 4 a.m. to 7 a.m. The Cumberland Plateau saw snow beginning between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. Steady snow continued throughout the afternoon, with heavy bands causing hazardous conditions in some areas. Southern Middle Tennessee experienced a slight chance of mixed precipitation, which could impact total snowfall accumulations.

Road conditions deteriorated rapidly, prompting officials to warn drivers to avoid unnecessary travel. Flights into and out of Nashville International Airport were also affected, with delays and cancellations reported. The snow is expected to taper off from west to east by Friday evening.

This weekend, treacherous road conditions are expected to persist, particularly on Saturday, as temperatures struggle to rise above freezing. Some improvement is anticipated by Saturday afternoon in areas where roads were pretreated and cleared. Sunday will bring brighter skies and slightly warmer temperatures, with highs reaching 38 degrees Fahrenheit.

Local authorities have urged residents to stay indoors and avoid travel unless absolutely necessary. The National Weather Service has issued winter weather advisories and warnings for the region, emphasizing the potential for dangerous driving conditions and reduced visibility.
