Mama Money, a prominent cross-border money transfer operator, has joined forces with Access Bank and Paymentology to introduce a revolutionary bank card leveraging WhatsApp banking capabilities.

The newly launched Mama Money Card, integrated with WhatsApp, enables users to conduct international transfers, purchase airtime and electricity, check balances, obtain bank statements, and manage their accounts through the WhatsApp platform.

At a nominal fee of R100 and monthly charges of R25, individuals can apply for the Mama Money Card by registering on the Mama Money App with either a passport or asylum document.

This innovative approach eliminates the traditional proof of address requirement for bank card applications, catering to Mama Money’s diverse customer base primarily from countries like Zimbabwe, Malawi, Ghana, Nigeria, and India.

Through advanced security features by Paymentology, the Mama Money Card provides users with the ability to instantly freeze their card via WhatsApp in case of theft or loss.

The collaboration between Mama Money, Access Bank, and Paymentology underscores a commitment to leveraging technology for enhancing financial inclusion and empowering underserved communities to access essential financial services.

Mathieu Coquillon, the co-founder of Mama Money, highlights the significance of the partnership in empowering migrant communities, fostering savings, and promoting financial well-being among users.

Drisha Kirkman, Head of Programme Management and Sustainability at Paymentology, emphasizes the impactful role such initiatives play in bridging the financial inclusivity gap for the estimated 4 million migrants residing in South Africa.
