Man Released on Bond After Fatal Shooting of Dallas Realtor

DALLAS – Kendrick Finch, 34, was released from the Dallas County Jail on May 13 after posting a $500,000 bond. He faces charges of murder in the shooting death of 28-year-old Ashlee Long, a Houston-area real estate agent, on April 5.
Long was in Dallas for work when she was shot while leaving a downtown bar with friends just after 2 a.m. Surveillance footage shows a confrontation involving Long, William Kistler, a man she was accompanying, and Finch, who was a passenger in a nearby Mercedes-Benz.
The incident escalated when Kistler brushed his hand along the side of the Mercedes, prompting Finch to exit the vehicle with a gun. As Kistler reached into Long’s purse to retrieve his weapon, Finch allegedly opened fire, striking both Kistler and Long. Long ultimately succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
Long’s family, speaking publicly for the first time since her death, expressed their heartbreak. Her mother, Michelle Long, described her daughter as a driven and loving individual. ‘I feel dead inside. She was my everything. A night out on the town and just being in the wrong place at the wrong time,’ she said.
Investigators said Finch turned himself in to police on April 18, following a public call for information from Long’s family. His defense attorney, Josh Healy, asserts that Finch acted in self-defense during the incident.
William Kistler, 36, who is currently in the Collin County Jail, faces charges of unlawful possession of a firearm. Court records reveal that Kistler has a criminal history, including previous charges of burglary and assault.
As the case moves forward, Finch’s trial is scheduled to begin in early 2026. More developments are expected as the investigation continues.
