Manly Sea Eagles Triumph Over Bulldogs in Thrilling Elimination Final
The Manly Sea Eagles emerged victorious in a thrilling elimination final against the Bulldogs, winning 24-22 at Accor Stadium. This gripping contest ended the Bulldogs’ season and propelled Anthony Seibold‘s Manly team into the second semi-final against the Roosters next weekend.
The Sydney Bulldogs started the match strongly, with Jacob Kiraz scoring from a pass by Viliame Kikau in just the sixth minute. Despite their intense beginning, Tommy Talau of the Sea Eagles equalized promptly with a well-executed play, exploiting weaknesses on the left side of the Bulldogs’ defense.
Kikau continued to show his prowess by bursting through Manly’s defense and scoring a try, extending the Bulldogs’ lead. A moment of brilliance from Stephen Crichton saw him scoring a remarkable try, further consolidating the Bulldogs’ advantage. Matt Burton‘s strategic kick found Crichton, who outran the competition to ground the ball expertly.
A controversial try by Ethan Bullemor at the end of the first half, following a questionable pass from Lehi Hopoate, saw Manly closing the gap with the Bulldogs leading 16-12 at halftime. The second half started with Jeral Skelton scoring another try, aided by Crichton. However, Manly responded with determination, notably through a clever no-look pass by Luke Brooks aiding a key try.
The match remained intensely competitive as both teams fought to maintain their seasons. Tolu Koula emerged as the hero for Manly, scoring a stunning try with his speed proving too much for the Bulldogs’ defense, earning praise as one of the game’s highlights.
With Manly taking the lead for the first time through a successful conversion by Daly Cherry-Evans, the final minutes of the match were tense. The Bulldogs attempted a two-point field goal to turn the tide but fell short. Thus, the Sea Eagles secured their win, advancing to face the Roosters, while leaving the Bulldogs to contemplate their season and future prospects.
