Northern Taphouse Restaurant Renovation Maple Grove

MAPLE GROVE, Minn. — The Letnes Brothers LLC has acquired a former Red Lobster for $3.5 million, aiming to transform the location into their fifth Northern Taphouse. The acquisition, located at 12515 Elm Creek Blvd. N., represents a strategic expansion for the popular restaurant group based in Plymouth.

While company representatives were unavailable for comment, city planning director Peter Vickerman confirmed that discussions regarding renovations are underway. The brothers — Matt, Kent, and Kevin Letnes — have previously undertaken similar projects, transforming various restaurant spaces into Northern Taphouses.

The Letnes brothers have a history of refurbishing former restaurant properties, successfully converting locations including a former Applebee’s in Lakeville and a former Outback Steakhouse in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. These renovations reflect their commitment to revitalizing existing spaces rather than constructing new buildings from the ground up.

The recent purchase continues a pattern of growth for the Letnes Brothers. The establishment of the new location marks an exciting development for local diners eager for fresh dining options. Vickerman noted that the area has seen increased interest in restaurant spaces, partly fueled by shifting consumer preferences post-pandemic.

In related news, a Blaine restaurant building featuring two distinct dining concepts was sold for $2.8 million. Located at 10620 Baltimore St. NE, the 5,481-square-foot space houses Five Guys and Crisp & Green, having been developed in 2021. It was assessed at approximately $1.97 million in 2024, and the recent sale reflects the growing demand for popular brand offerings.

The property garnered significant attention, resulting in multiple offers and a competitive pricing scenario, as noted by Deb Vannelli from Upland Real Estate Group, who represented the seller. The successful sale demonstrates the strength of the local commercial real estate market.

As for the Letnes Brothers and their new Maple Grove location, local officials and community members are keen to see how their vision will unfold, anticipating a vibrant addition to the area’s dining scene.
