Marines to Display MAGTF Power at Miramar Air Show

SAN DIEGO, California — U.S. Marines and Sailors are ready to showcase the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) during the MCAS Miramar Air Show from September 26-28, 2025. This demonstration, a highlight of the air show, will feature an impressive array of military aircraft demonstrating their coordinated prowess in a combat setting.
The MAGTF demo includes fighter jets, helicopters, and logistical support that will simulate a military operation. Attendees can expect a thrilling display, including a dramatic “wall of fire” pyrotechnic show. Spectators are encouraged to capture the action with their cameras as they witness the largest showcase of firepower in the air show’s history.
Maj. Gen. James Wellons, commanding general of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, emphasized the demonstration’s focus on teamwork. “The MAGTF Demo isn’t just an air show performance — it’s a window into how your Marines fight as a team,” Wellons said.
The demonstration occurs in three phases. Phase one involves 18 Marine Corps aircraft launching within eight minutes, including F/A-18 Hornets and F-35 Lightning IIs for close air support, CH-53E Super Stallions for heavy-lift, and more. This synchronization showcases the Marine Corps’ rapid response capabilities.
In phase two, these aircraft will conduct precise air support and troop-insertion operations. Troops will move under the cover of air superiority, as Staff Sgt. Christopher Filipovich from 1st Recon Battalion explained, “When we hit the ground during the demo, the public will see how Marines move under the protection of aircraft overhead.”
Meanwhile, logistical support Marines will ensure seamless mission execution, managing fuel and communication. This aspect is crucial to maintaining operational efficiency and reflects the integrated approach of the MAGTF.
The third phase will culminate with all MAGTF Demo aircraft conducting a flyover. This dramatic conclusion will allow participants to see the strength and coordination of Marine Corps operations firsthand.
<p“For the community, this demonstration shows how Marines integrate across air, ground, and logistics,” said Wellons. “It’s a reminder that your Marines are ready to respond anytime, anywhere.”
