Marvel’s Eternals Future Remains Uncertain Four Years After Release
LOS ANGELES, California — Four years after its cliffhanger ending, the future of Marvel‘s ‘Eternals‘ remains a mystery. Directed by Academy Award-winner Chloé Zhao, the film was a bold attempt to expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), but it received a mixed response upon its release in 2021.
‘Eternals’ introduced ten new characters and featured the first major appearances of Celestials like Arishem and Tiamut. Despite this groundbreaking approach, critics argued that the large cast diluted the story, limiting character development and leaving some plot threads unresolved.
One of the significant like Tiamut’s defeat involves Arishem’s promise to return and judge humanity. Fans are concerned that this promise may never be fulfilled, specifically in a potential sequel to ‘Eternals’. Although there has been a resurgence of interest in the characters, there are currently no clear plans for a second movie.
However, there is a possibility that Arishem and the other Celestials could appear in upcoming MCU projects. While titles like ‘Thor 5′, ‘Doctor Strange 3′, and ‘Captain Marvel 3′ hint at opportunities, the direction of these stories suggests they might not focus on the Celestials.
With Marvel shifting its attention to mutants and the X-Men, there remains potential for Arishem’s return in future storylines. Fans are speculating about a potential adaptation of the comic series ‘A.X.E.: Judgment Day’, which involves the Avengers, X-Men, and Eternals coming together in conflict.
Until any announcements are made, the fates of the Eternals and their unresolved mysteries hang in the balance.
