St Mary’s Band Club Youth Section Holds Unique La Semana Santa Exhibition
The youth section of St Mary’s Band Club in Mqabba is currently hosting a captivating exhibition titled La Semana Santa, showcasing over 200 intricate miniature replicas of Good Friday statues inspired by various cities in Spain.
These meticulous replicas, each depicting poignant moments from the Passion of Christ, have been painstakingly crafted by dedicated local volunteers, highlighting their skill and commitment to the project.
One of the striking features of the exhibit is the exquisite velvet attire adorned by the statues, complete with intricate gold and silver embroidery, all of which has been expertly handmade by the talented group of volunteers involved in the project.
Alongside the miniature statues, the exhibition also showcases a wide array of compelling visuals, including hundreds of photographs capturing the essence of Spanish processions, as well as an assortment of paintings, medals, and badges representing different brotherhoods from various cities across Spain.
Attendees can also enjoy a multimedia experience during the exhibit, with a large screen displaying footage related to the vibrant and deeply rooted traditions of Holy Week in Spain.
Notably, the exhibition has received backing from the Spanish Embassy in Malta, further underscoring the cultural significance and international collaboration evident in this unique showcase.
The exhibition will be open to the public throughout the week, with operating hours from 6 to 9.30pm on Monday to Wednesday, extended hours on Maundy Thursday from 10am to midnight, a morning viewing on Good Friday from 9am to 1pm, and a special Easter Sunday showcase from 10am to noon. Admission to the exhibition is free for all visitors.
