Massive Fire Breaks Out at Acropolis Mall in Kolkata
A major fire incident occurred at the renowned Acropolis Mall in Kolkata on Friday, prompting a swift response from the authorities. The blaze reportedly originated on the third floor of the Acropolis shopping mall in the southern part of Kolkata. This led to the immediate evacuation of the premises, with ten fire engines dispatched to the scene for firefighting operations.
According to reports from the Press Trust of India (PTI), the fire broke out around 12.15 pm at the mall situated in the Kasba area. Officials confirmed that there were no injuries reported at the time. Firefighters equipped with oxygen masks bravely entered the building to combat the flames.
The entire vicinity was shrouded in smoke as traffic in front of the mall was regulated by senior officers of the Kolkata Traffic Police. The cause of the fire remained uncertain, although initial indications suggested that it originated in the mall’s food court.
Just days prior to this incident, another fire outbreak had occurred at a restaurant in the central Park Street area of Kolkata, causing panic among locals. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported in that incident. Firefighters brought the blaze under control with the help of nine fire tenders.
The Fire and Emergency Services Minister, Sujit Bose, assured that investigations would determine the cause of the Park Street fire. Concerns were raised regarding the building’s construction, with a part covered in tin sheets being severely affected by the blaze.
