Matthew McConaughey’s Bedroom Secret to Improve Marriage

AUSTIN, Texas — Actor Matthew McConaughey recently shared an unconventional marriage tip that has strengthened his relationship with wife Camila Alves. In his new book, “Poems & Prayers,” McConaughey emphasizes the importance of downsizing to a smaller bed for couples.
The 55-year-old star explained that a queen-size bed has brought him and Alves closer together after years of sleeping in a king-size mattress. McConaughey recalled waking up one morning and feeling distant from Alves, saying, “I woke up one morning, and Camila’s like a football field away, man.” He noted that when their kids—Levi, 17; Vida, 15; and Livingston, 12—were younger, they often all piled into their big bed, which was cozy at first but became impractical as the kids grew.
After realizing the drawbacks of a king-size mattress, McConaughey commented, “You’re like, ‘Man, this damn king-size bed is not good for the marriage.’ Get rid of that son of a b–ch. So we got a queen-size where we’re shoulder to shoulder. I’m telling you, it’s good for your marriage.” This new arrangement has left no extra space for kids to crawl in, allowing just McConaughey and Alves to enjoy their time together.
McConaughey and Alves, who married in 2012, continue to prioritize their relationship amidst the challenges of parenting. Recently, McConaughey’s family dynamic expanded as he starred alongside his eldest son, Levi, in the movie “The Lost Bus,” which also features his mother, Kay McConaughey.
Reflecting on this experience, he told E! News, “He’s introducing himself, and I happen to be alongside him in some of the same scenes which is pretty cool. Three generations. My mother has always been a performer, and I had no idea he was even interested.”
This new approach to their sleeping arrangements is just one of the ways the couple has found to bridge the gap between busy family life and romantic togetherness, showing that even small changes can make a significant difference.
