Maxwell Frost: The First Gen Z Congressman Speaks at the DNC
Rep. Maxwell Frost, a Democratic Congressman from Florida, is set to speak on the final night of the Democratic National Convention. At 27 years old, Frost represents the first member of Generation Z to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.
Since taking office last year, Frost has been serving Florida’s 10th district. He previously worked as the National Organizing Director for March for Our Lives, an organization founded to combat gun violence following the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Frost has openly discussed the challenges he faces as a young politician, including instances of ageism within Congress. He noted that while most of the age-related discrimination is implicit, he has learned to navigate these challenges throughout his career.
Before entering Congress, Frost experienced personal struggles, including difficulties in finding affordable housing, which he made public. He highlighted how his own challenges reflect the broader housing crisis faced by young Americans.
During the DNC, Frost actively participated in various events, including addressing the Democratic Hispanic Caucus and Florida delegation. He is considered an influential young voice within the party, reminiscent of the impact made by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Frost’s district is diverse, presenting a mixture of various ethnic communities. He has been a strong advocate for progressive issues, including gun violence prevention, racial justice, and accessible housing. He also backs housing policies proposed by Kamala Harris aimed at increasing housing availability for low-income families.
Though Frost has had to balance his progressive values with acceptance from party establishment figures, he remains focused on mobilizing younger voters, a demographic crucial for the Democratic Party’s electoral success moving forward.
His upcoming speech at the DNC is expected to resonate with the younger audience, emphasizing the importance of participation in the democratic process and addressing critical issues facing the nation.
